This means we can now support a wide range of exchange visitors coming to the United States in 5 categories: J-1 Intern, J-1 Trainee, J-1 Research Scholar, J-1 Specialist & J-1 Short Term Scholar.
Designated Fields:

J-1 Intern - For currently enrolled students or recent graduates from a foreign academic institution outside the United States, valid for up to 1 year.

J-1 Trainee - For those with a post-secondary degree from a foreign academic institution outside the United States plus 1 years' full-time work experience OR 5 years' full-time work experience if no degree, valid for up to 18 months.

J-1 Research Scholar - For international professionals to come to the United States to conduct research at U.S. companies, universities or research institutions, valid for up to 5 years.

J-1 Short-Term Scholar - For international academics and professionals who wish to engage in research, lectures, or consultations for a shorter duration, valid for up to 6 months.
